Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
