That will not be happening on this occasion, however, after Australia's crushing triumph in Adelaide left the home side 3-0 up for the fourth consecutive series on Australian grounds.

The Barmy Army, the organized fan base, have thousands of supporters traveling for the final two Tests in Sydney and Melbourne.

In addition, there are travel parties who will spend the Christmas period down under, as well as loved ones embarking on a dream holiday.

The Ryding Siblings

A group of four supporters are among those affected.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their flights and tickets booked for the fourth and fifth Tests "12 months ago", hoping to witness a historic English victory.

From afar, they've seen Australia defeat England convincingly in just under two weeks from their residence in Penwortham, Lancashire.

"Everyone at work has been teasing me that the series is done for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"We always thought that we would have something to play for still when we got there."

Fading Positivity

Optimism was high regarding the team's prospects of breaking a 15-year drought for a series win in Australia prior to the first ball.

But they are now facing the prospect of continuing a barren spell in the country to 19 matches when the fourth Test gets under way in the MCG on Christmas Day.

Ben Stokes' side - and their supporters - will be keen to prevent a whitewash.

It was mentioned that the "entertainment" of head coach the aggressive 'Bazball' approach in recent times had "reinvigorated" Test cricket for English supporters.

However, the group said they had realistic outlooks for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are asking for from the players is "a bit of fight".

"Commentators consistently alludes to it, but it all is about mental resilience. 'The aggressive approach has been elevated to a term now that is just, like, unrealistic play," added Rory.

"In a five-day Test match, you should apply yourself. Chasing balls 'sixth stump' areas has never been in the fundamentals, and that is primarily due to the frontline batsmen."

Future Prospects

Prompted about he believed England will win a match in this Ashes series, Sam said: "It appears the Australians are superior right now."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that stands up for England and turns the game."

Even with the series lost, the group remains excited about the trip.

"It will be a great time nonetheless," said Katie. "We must adopt that attitude."

"Obviously it is a let-down we don't have more to play for, but we have spent so much money by now."

"We plan to savor having Christmas and New Year in Australia. This will be our first experience away from home at this time of year."

A schoolteacher, Katie is focused on enjoying the long-haul travel as part of her Christmas holidays.

"If all else fails, I can play golf to fall back on," Katie concluded.
